The 23rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Tanjungpura University (Untan) was marked by an engaging event that included expert discussions aimed at high school students and university students in West Kalimantan. This event took place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Tanjungpura University Library Building. The discussion was part of the Faculty Open Day, which also showcased exhibitions of student works and provided information on various study programs within the FMIPA. The Biology Department contributed to the expert discussions by featuring two speakers: Prof. Dr. Siti Khotimah, M.Si., and Ari Hepi Yanti, S.Si., M.Sc. Their presentations were organized into two distinct sessions. The first session was led by Prof. Dr. Siti Khotimah, who presented on the topic "Biofertilizer: Sustainable Agricultural Solutions for Degraded Land. the utilization of indigenous bacteria from the soil in West Kalimantan as a biofertilizer formula aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, particularly in the peatlands of West Kalimantan. The second session was conducted by Ari Hepi Yanti, who presented on the Role and Potential of the Exotic Giant Sea Worm (Namalycastis rhodochorde) from West Kalimantan. The economic potential of Nypa palm worms, which are recognized by the local community for their utility in fishing and as a protein- and fatty acid-rich feed for fisheries. The presentation also discussed the research conducted by the Nypa palm Worm Research Team, which explored aspects of fertilization, ecology, and the microbial associations of these worms. To further engage the audience, the presenter provided live examples of Nypa palm worms, thereby stimulating interest in the exploration of this significant economic resource in West Kalimantan.
