Biology Students Participate In National Community Service Program In Maluku Province

Biology students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) participated in the National Community Service (KKN) program, an initiative organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Among the participants, Mega Juliana (Student ID: H1041211033) had the opportunity to engage in this program, which took place in Maluku Province, with Pattimura University serving as the coordinating institution. Mega was selected as one of the representatives from Tanjungpura University to contribute to the development of coastal children's potential in Maluku Province. The KKN program, conducted from July 26 to August 24, 2024, was situated in Negeri Tengah-Tengah Village, under the theme "Creating a Generation that Understands Literacy, Has National Insight, and Loves the Coastal Environment. with rich coastal natural resources, presents significant opportunities for nurturing children's potential from an early age. The Coastal School was established as a venue to provide engaging and relevant educational experiences tailored to children's daily lives, particularly in the areas of literacy, numeracy, national insight, and ecology. The primary objective of this initiative is to offer elementary school students a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience while fostering an appreciation for the coastal environment. Participants will be encouraged to learn about the heroes of the archipelago and the importance of environmental preservation. The program will employ various pedagogical methods, including project-based learning and interactive games. Activities may include storytelling sessions about national heroes and beach clean-up initiatives. The program is structured around three main themes. The first theme, focusing on literacy and numeracy, will involve activities such as measuring, counting, and creating regional fairy tales. The second theme, dedicated to national insight, will introduce students to Indonesian heroes, the symbols of Pancasila, and cultivate a sense of patriotism. Lastly, the ecology theme will engage students in environmental preservation efforts through activities such as beach clean-ups, crafting with shells, and creating ecobricks. Each theme will be implemented using diverse and engaging methods to enhance the effectiveness of the learning experience. By actively involving students in these activities, it is anticipated that they will acquire new knowledge, develop social skills, and foster a sense of responsibility towards environmental stewardship. Furthermore, this initiative aims to raise public awareness regarding the significance of preserving the coastal environment. Mega Juliana expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to participate, noting that the month-long experience in Negeri Tengah-Tengah Village, Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency, provided invaluable lessons about local culture, communal values, harmonious living, and the strong spirit of cooperation inherent in the Maluku community. Mega also had the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired on campus to assist in the development of the local village. Her contributed to enhancing the capabilities of the village's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by conducting training sessions focused on the production of products made from breadfruit, papaya, and banana. This initiative is particularly significant as Negeri Tengah-Tengah is recognized as the leading producer of breadfruit in Indonesia.
